Learn to program in 2012

If you have made it your goal this year to learn to program, Code Year has the solution for you. They have setup a program to help you learn a new lesson each week. The system has been going for a few weeks, but it isn't too late to sign-up.

I've been doing this with my son and it is a great system they have. They send you an email on the Monday of each week letting you know that there is a new lesson available. When you get to the site you are presented with the lesson and some hands-on labs. Each larger weekly lesson is broken into multiple smaller lessons so you can take your time learning the material.

Each smaller lesson has 1 item that it teaches you and then presents you with a hands-on example to apply that lesson. When you have correctly performed the example you can progress to the next step. There are also larger hands-on examples at the end so that you can make sure you understand the entire lesson. This has worked great since many people are hands on learners and perform better when they are able to apply the skills rather then reading about them.

If you are the type of person who likes to earn badges as a motivating tool, they have those available for you too.

So if you are ready to take your programming lessons seriously, head over to Code Year.
